We open with a teenage boy (Greg) on the computer. After hanging up the phone he gets spam. A weird video pops up, with flashing and inter-cut images. He keeps staring at it as his mother announces she's going out. As the images on the computer screen get progressively more frightening (think "Blair Witch Project"), the boy continues to stare, tears dripping down his cheeks. And then, inexplicably, a hand comes out of the computer and grabs onto his head. WTF?
Olivia is playing with her niece, Ella, and listening to Beyonce's "Single Ladies" song (I don't know why, but I hate that song). Cut to the lab, where Walter is praising Darwin. Peter finds a letter address to Walter and opens it, looking disturbed. Olivia calls to ask Walter and Peter to join her outside....she's bringing them a body. As they leave, Peter throws out the letter, but Astrid retrieves it and reads it.
Olivia visits Greg's parents, along with Charlie and questions them about their son's recent behavior. The mother mentions that Greg spent a lot of time on the computer and Charlie picks up on that. The father mentions that Greg used to chat a lot with his friend, Luke Dempsey.
Peter and Walter are doing an autopsy on the boy and notice that Greg's brain has been liquified. Peter actually drains the boy's brain into a beaker (gross!). Astrid is going through the boy's computer and notices that the hard drive might be messed up. Olivia tells her to work on it.
Meanwhile, Olivia goes to track down Luke Dempsey at his work. Olivia questions Luke about his Greg's chat room conversations, but Luke doesn't have much to say. As she leaves, Olivia gets a call about another body.
Olivia meets up with Broyles at a car dealership and Walter and Peter meet up with them. This victim's name is Anton and Olivia is questioning the co-worker who found him.
Back at the Harvard lab, Astrid tells Olivia that Anton's hard drive was fried, just like Greg's. She says that both computers downloaded a large file just before they crashed. A phone on the wall rings and everyone seems surprised that that particular phone is ringing. Peter answers and then quickly dismisses the person on the other end (could this be related to the letter?). Peter takes the hard drive to a "friend" for help. Astrid hands Olivia the letter she found earlier, thinking that it's related to the phone call.
Peter takes the hard drive to an old tech shop and greets the clerk (Akim). The two know each other and Peter asks for his help. They go into the back room and Peter brings Akim up to speed. Akim hooks up the hard drives to try and discover the source of the download.
Back at FBI HQ, Sanford Harris (the jerk from last week's episode) asks Olivia about her investigation into Anton's death. Harris insists that the case should be handed to the CDC, but Olivia disagrees. Harris isn't happy with Olivia working for what he calls a “rogue division”. He gives her 12 hours to solve the case, otherwise he's taking it away from her.
Back at the tech shop, Akim's trying to track down the source of the download. He can't tell the originating source, but he tells Peter that someone is downloading the file right now.....at Olivia's apartment!
Peter calls Olivia with the news. Cut to Ella, who's playing on the computer.
Peter and Olivia are both separately racing to her apartment when Ella gets the same pop-up message that Greg did before he died. Rachel is making dinner in the kitchen and the video starts playing as Ella's watching the computer. Olivia and Peter arrive and Olivia shakes Ella out of her stupor.
Olivia tells Charlie about the images on the computer. He goes to call computer forensics as Peter plays with Ella. Olivia wants to get Ella checked out, but Rachel insists she's fine. Then Ella mentions a hand coming out the computer. Rachel is disbelieving, but Peter asks Ella to elaborate. Olivia goes to look at the computer and notices that the webcam light is on. We see another man staring back at her. That man is Luke Dempsey's father! Didn't see that coming.
Luke stops by with lunch for his father, but his father is mostly paying attention to his multiple computer screens. The two are obviously a bit estranged.
Olivia is telling Peter and Broyles about her webcam being on and she thinks that the killer was watching her. Broyles suggests that they try to track down the killer through the computer. Peter asks if there's a connection between the victims, but Olivia says she hasn't found one yet.
A woman arrives home, calling for her husband, Mark He's dead too.
Charlie calls Olivia to tell her about Mark's death (he lives outside of Chicago and is a day trader). Peter notices a woman standing nearby and goes to talk to her while Olivia enters the lab.
The lady introduces herself as Jessica Warren. She says she knows who Peter is and he says he read the letter. He tells Jessica that it's not the right time for her to speak with Walter. We learn that Jessica is the mother of the lab assistant who died in Walter's lab (which later led to him being put in the hospital). Peter refuses to allow a meeting and walks away.
Walter explains to Olivia how the scenes may kill people (it's kind of like a computer virus for people) and then goes to investigate further. Olivia quickly guesses that the woman outside was the mother of Walter's lab assistant. Peter is insistent that Walter couldn't handle meeting Jessica, but Olivia thinks he could.
Astrid brings Olivia some more information about Mark. We learn that Mark had just married a woman named Miriam Dempsey.....Luke's mother. Olivia wonders whether Luke Dempsey is the connection between the victims as Peter removes the phone from the lab. Olivia tells Peter that their suspect is Brian Dempsey (Luke's father). Astrid says they're still looking for a connection between Dempsey and Anton (the dead car salesman).
Back at FBI, Luke is waiting inside an interrogation room. Olivia wants to go slow, but Harris is being a jerk and wants to push the kid.
Olivia and Charlie enter the interrogation room and asks Luke where his father is. They insist that Dempsey is the killer and is targeting people who pissed him off. Luke denies this and asks for a lawyer.
Olivia asks Charlie to wait 5 minutes and then release Luke. I guess they're hoping Luke will lead them to Dempsey.
Olivia and Peter are following Luke as he leaves the FBI. They arrive at a warehouse and Olivia goes in alone, but Peter's not happy about it. Back at the FBI, Harris is trying to track Olivia down. Inside the warehouse Olivia hears Luke and his father arguing. Luke accuses his father of killing Greg and Dempsey tries to defend himself (Greg's dad never gave him a chance, boo-hoo). An alarm is triggered by Olivia and Dempsey tells Luke to leave.
Olivia finds the room with all of the computer screens. Dempsey comes up behind her with a gun.
While Peter is still chilling out in the car, Dempsey takes Olivia's gun. Now he's got one gun pointed at her and one at his own head. Dempsey is angry that no one respects him. Peter hears sirens approaching and gets out of the car. Inside, Dempsey is staring at the download.
Peter enters the warehouse and is stopped by Luke, who's wielding a pipe. A shot rings out and Luke and Peter see that Dempsey shot himself. Harris enters the warehouse with backup and they arrest Luke.
Dempsey's body is carried away in a body bag. Peter wonders why Luke was protecting Dempsey and Olivia says because Dempsey was his father.
Harris goes into Broyles' office to say that Olivia disobeyed his order to hold Luke. Broyles defends her and insists that Harris is going after Olivia as a personal vendetta.
Back at the lab, Peter introduces Walter to Jessica. Walter says that he does remember Jessica's daughter Carla. Jessica says that he wanted to see Walter because he was the last person who saw her alive. She wants to see him in case there's anything he can tell her about Carla. Walter says he remembers that Carla was a wonderful, smiling girl. They both say that they miss Carla and Walter hugs Jessica.
Olivia and Rachel are at Olivia's apartment, discussing Ella. Ella goes off to bed and the doorbell rings. Olivia opens the door to see Peter, who's been drinking. He tells Olivia that she brought him and Walter together and he is grateful for that. Rachel sees Peter at the door (someone's got a crush!) and Olivia goes to tuck Ella in.
